The Industrial Engineering Centre (CGI) is a laboratory of about thirty people from the École Nationale Supérieure des Mines d’Albi-Carmaux, whose purpose is to propose approaches, models, methods and tools to support the design and operation of value-creating processes and projects. The processes that we work on are usually distributed and collaborative processes, based on very diverse knowledge, and subject to risks and uncertainties in a world of permanent instability. Our contributions to their design and operation basically involve the use of new technologies in information management.
The work is carried out in two teams who interact continually. The ORKID team (Organisation, Risk, Knowledge in Design) focuses on decision support, making use of business-specific (expert) knowledge for project or process development of products, systems or services. The knowledge, risks and uncertainties that we study relate both to the product, system or service, as well as to the project or process development, and may also include analysis of production. The IO Team (Interoperability of Organizations) focuses on the development of approaches and tools on three levels to support organizational collaboration. The first level, “Expert knowledge“, models and optimizes collective behaviours as processes. The second level, “Orchestrate“, transforms these processes into executable workflows by an information system that will support collaboration. The last level, “Maintain“, supports the changes that occur during the collaboration.
